Eucalyptus is a fast-growing woody flowering tree which has the potential to be turned into a sustainable fabric for good quality and ethical clothing. Eucalyptus is woody and therefore needs energy input to convert it into a soft fibre before it can be used for clothing.
Eucalyptus as a material is known as Tencel Lyocell which is created using an eco-friendly manufacturing process using the mashed up pulp of the eucalyptus tree.
To make Tencel Lyocell Eucalyptus garments, the eucalyptus wood is pulped, reduced down into a cellulose viscous solution that is forced through spinnerets. This newly spun fiber will come out of the nozzle are spun into the soft, workable, lightweight and breathable fabric is known as Tencel Lyocell.
Lyocell fiber is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, eco-friendly as it is a cellulosic fiber. This fabric clothing is soft, breathable, and deliciously lightweight and is comfortable to wear, especially in super-hot climates. It’s an ideal fabric for persons with sensitivities skin or skin allergies as an essential oil that is extracted from it that has powerful natural disinfectants. Due to its unique fibril structure, the lyocell fabric absorbs 50% more moisture than cotton from the skin.
It has temperature regulating properties hence will keep you cool in the heat and warm in the cold, while being extremely breathable. Fabric is softer than silk and cooler than linen and it feels amazing to wear.
